My current body of work begins with a performance piece in which a large canvas occupies the floor of a space and participants are encouraged to use their body as a tool in order to make marks across the 2-dimensional surface using a dry medium such as charcoal or chalk. The canvas is then manipulated into an installation in a gallery space with the addition of a time-based video of the performance piece to give clarification as well as a visual element. My goal is to alter people’s perception of how they view themselves and the progression of mark-making as time progresses.
Movement, human interaction, and mark-making are the major themes in this artwork.
The viewers are willing to participate and engage with the artwork as they see their own footprints and handprints creating a unique pattern as they move across the canvas.
