Throughout my hectic life, I'm always trying to find ways to make things easier, quicker, and more efficient. Here are some tips that have helped me along the way.
1. Clorox Wipes
Keep Clorox wipes under every sink in your house, in your car, keep some spares in your pantry. Use them to wipe down your bathroom sink after you get ready in the morning, clean your cup-holders, even remove stains from upholstery. Wipe down your stove too, you nasty.
2. Create an Imminent/Pending List
This tip has changed my life. After reading one of Bethenny Frankel's books, this updated To-Do List has helped my life get in order. Things that need to get done right away go under Imminent, and things that will take a little longer go under Pending. For example:
Pay gas bill
Call Client about comission
Fix record player
Go to a yoga class
3. File Folder on the Go
Keep an empty file folder in your car. This has saved me so many times. I'm busy, running errands, picking up documents and receipts. Now I keep them neat, clean, and organized while I'm on the go. I've also started using a pad-folio. Professional and organized.
4. Allow Yourself to Relax
You heard me. Take the time to chill out. I know you have a job, maybe you have kids, are in school, are supporting a family. How can you do these things well if you are tired, stressed, and pissed off? That is not fun for anyone. Create the time and space to do your favorite chill. Mine is veggin out in front of the TV with mad food.
5. Invest in Quality, not Quantity
A tale as old as time. Girl sees shoe sale, buys 5 pairs of cheap shoes. These shoes are adorable but fall apart after a couple wears. Not cute. Girl buys 1 pair on expensive, well-made, high quality shoes. Girl gets compliments on her style and the quality of the leather on her shoes. These shoes last a year and the Girl resells the shoes once they start to wear. A Savvy Girl is a Smart Girl.
6. Invest in yourself
I hate to say it but people DO judge you on your appearance. I'm not saying you have to look like you are stepping out on the runway everyday, but take pride in your body. Show it some love with exercise, yummy and nutritious food, vitamins, and really great sleep. I always, and I mean always, have a layer of nail polish on my toes. I recently started doing my fingernails with gel polish and I haven't looked back.
7. Download Google Calendar, Drive, and Photos
If you haven't done this yet hop on it fool! Computers DIE randomly. Your phone could fall into the toilet RIGHT NOW. Install Google Calendar, Drive, and Photos. It does everything for you. Don't lose all your files, freak out, Google how to get your photos back, find a website, pay some hacker to "fix it" and then be scammed out of your hard-earned money. You are not a senile 85 year old. Get it together and back up your shit!
8. Write it Down
I write everything down. Lists, ideas, stories, blog post ideas, if I am driving I will even record a voice memo. I send emails to myself, I am always jotting down ideas.
9. Enjoy your Life
Life is way more than going to work and receiving a paycheck. More than dishes, the laundry, cleaning the house. Do what you love and don't apologize for it. You only get one chance on this planet. Make it count.
10. Be Kind
The most important tip. Be nice. Be generous. Be humble. In any difficult situation I have encountered, when I am nice and calm the outcome will turn towards my favor. Karma is real. Use it wisely.
